The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 18th that it will start attracting investment in earnest, starting with Silicon Valley in the U.S. The Seoul Financial and Investment Promotion Conference (IR), the first overseas investment attraction briefing since COVID-19, will announce the strength of “competitive financial center Seoul,” and four promising fintech companies in Korea will make their debut in front of local investors.

The event, which will be held in Silicon Valley from the 20th, will be held in collaboration with the Financial Supervisory Service (Financial Center Support Center) and the KOTRA Silicon Valley Trade Center to increase the possibility of attracting overseas investment.

This conference event will be divided into parts 1 and 2. In the first part, the Seoul Investment Agency (Invest Seoul) and the Financial Supervisory Service will launch sales to attract investment in the financial and investment sectors of Seoul, respectively. The Financial Supervisory Service promotes support policies such as the current status of Korea’s financial and fintech industries, strengths in the digital sector, and related deregulation. In particular, it will guide the “Financial Regulatory Sandbox” (temporary exemption or suspension of regulations in the financial sector), which has been in effect since 2019, and explain the support system for entering domestic businesses.

The Seoul Investment Agency guides Seoul’s financial environment and policies as an Asian financial hub, and guides various policies supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to that end. The second part of the event will feature a “pitching session” in which four fintech companies interested in local investors in Silicon Valley introduce technologies and services in front of investors. The four participating companies established investment attraction strategies in line with what investors attending the site would be interested in, and went through a “pitching” preparation process to help companies stand out through pre-coaching and consulting in conjunction with professional investors.
