China’s Huawei emphasized cooperation across the industry, heralding a large-scale commercialization of “5.5G.”

At a press conference for 5.5G and Intelligent World 2030 at Win-Win Huawei Innovation Week held in Shenzhen, China, Walid Mathlouthi, general manager of ITU’s future network and frequency management division, said, “The next 5.5G is expected to accelerate digitalization and commercialization of society by 2025.”

Recently, the need for 5G improvement has been expanding across the industry, and based on this demand, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) predicts that the era of large-scale commercialization of 5.5G will begin in earnest in 2025.

“As it is important to establish a global frequency standard, related guidelines will be announced at the World Radio Conference (WRC), which is scheduled to be held at the end of 2023,” said General Director Matlowti.

Wang Qi, chief marketing officer (CMO) of Huawei’s 5.5G wireless network, said, “With the emergence of more intelligent applications, we will need better wireless technology than 5G in the next 5 to 10 years,” adding, “5G will continue to develop into 5.5G through improved features such as 10 times faster connectivity and stronger IoT and sensing.”
